Elementary and Middle School
Our approach is supported by three pillars:
Project Based Learning, Socio Emotional learning and Green Education.
Project Based Learning (PBL)
The curriculum of Green School is a combination of the Albanian curriculum and Project Based Learning, where students combine their academic studies with practical applications. We build a culture of learning that enables students to apply their knowledge from subjects such as math, science, literature into real life situations, through collaboration, critical thinking, synthesising and analysing information. They achieve this via hands on experiences and the use of technological tools. Following the stages of a project from developing a hypothesis to the final reflection, the students learn through a systematic and rigorous research process. Our environment get transformed according to the projects studied, giving the students a space to question, discuss, reflect and present. Projects become a way for sharing with our wider community as we celebrate learning. These celebrations take the shape of exhibitions, shows, community fairs and open days. Socio emotional education
Emotional intelligence, empathy, tolerance, collaboration, and public speaking are some of the skills required for success in the future. Every morning our students come together with their teacher in a Morning Circle to learn about each other, hone their communication skills and learn how to contribute to the wider community. They practice debating skills, critical thinking and how to focus on solutions to problems. This aspect of learning is unique to our school because it stems from our own context and community. English is the first choice of languages offered along with Italian and German. English language teachers are an important asset of our school facilitating authentic communication and promoting collaboration with peers around the world. With focus on future solutions our students gain access to learning resources and applications in different languages widening their perspective.
Green Education - Stewards of our common home, the planet
Our ‘Local to Global’ focus encourages our students to take a fresh perspective on local issues while considering them within the global context. As partners of schools and organisations that embrace a similar philosophy our students think about the future without compromising present actions. Our school applies four main steps: Observe, Act, Inspire and Celebrate. Our curriculum is supported by globally renowned organisations such as Green Schools Project, Green Schools Alliance, Roots and Shoots, Project Learning Tree, securing us a systematic knowledge building and action oriented approach. Students use their own devices giving them access to digital resources and portfolios avoiding the need for printed materials. They explore and study in nature, ask important questions and devise possible solutions. They organise awareness campaigns for cleaning, recycling of plastics, and planting trees becoming messengers and citizens of the future. Our gardening program brings our students closer to nature too.
